A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE HEBREW SCRIPTURE: Esther 8:1-6 Read by Deacon Melinda Post That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came into the presence of the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. The king took off his signet ring, which he had reclaimed from Haman, and presented it to Mordecai. And Esther appointed him over Haman's estate.

Esther again pleaded with the king, falling at his feet and weeping. She begged him to put an end to the evil plan of Haman the Agagite, which he had devised against the Jews. Then the king extended the gold scepter to Esther and she arose and stood before him. "If it pleases the king," Esther said, "and if he regards me with favor and thinks it the right thing to do, and if he is pleased with me, let an order be written overruling the dispatches that Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, devised and wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces. For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people? How can I bear to see the destruction of my family?"

THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE: 1 Thessalonians 1:1 ‑ 10 Read by Deacon Melinda Post Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you. We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

For we know, brothers and sisters, loved by God, that He has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord. In spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model, an example, to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia ‑‑ but your faith in God has become known everywhere.

The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia ‑‑ but your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore, we do not need to say anything about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead ‑‑ Jesus,-- who rescues us from the coming wrath.

THE SONG OF PREPARATION #196 O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. We’ll praise His name forever, Christ the Lord.

We’ll give Him all the glory, Christ the Lord. For He alone is worthy, Christ the Lord.

O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1:6-7 You became a MODEL, an EXAMPLE, to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia ‑‑ your faith in God has become known everywhere.

The words of our powerful and profound 1 Thessalonians text describe the desperate need for Christians (including Bayshore Church Christians) to take a stand as good role models, as Christian examples, that are worthy to be followed.

(1) O happy day that fixed my choice On Thee my Savior and my God! Well may this glowing heart rejoice And tell its raptures all abroad. Happy day, happy day When Jesus washed my sins away! He taught me how to watch and pray And live rejoicing every day; Happy day, happy day When Jesus washed my sins away!

(2) O happy bond that seals my vows To Him who merits all my love Let cheerful anthems fill His house While to that sacred shrine I move. Happy day, happy day When Jesus washed my sins away! 44 (3) ‘Tis done: the great transaction’s done I am my Lord’s and He is mine. He drew me, and I followed on, Charmed to confess the voice divine. Happy day, happy day When Jesus washed my sins away!
