1 WBAreaComID Queries

2 By first converting the NHDFlowline feature class to a point feature class and then joining the flowline point feature class with the NHDArea feature class/ NHDWaterbody feature class, Queries can then be used to find or incorrect WBAreaComID’s in the NHDFlowline feature class and populate the NHDStatus table with Modify Feature Attribute records

3 Open Arc Toolbox

4 Arc Toolbox: Data Management Tools Features Double click on Feature To Point

5 Input Features: Browse to personal geodatabase, Hydrography, NHDFlowline Add

6 Output Feature Class: Browse to personal geodatabase, Hydrography Name = flowline_to_point Save

7 Check Inside (Optional) OK

8 flowline_to_point feature class has been added to table of contents

9 Right click on flowline_to_point Open Attribute Table

10 Options Select By Attributes

11 Create a new selection Where [FType] =558 Apply

12 Right click on flowline_to _point Data Export Data…

13 Export: Selected features This layers source data Browse to specify output feature class

14 Browse to personal geodatabase, Hydrography Save as type: Personal Geodatabase feature class Name = flowline_ap_points Save

15 Click OK

16 Click Yes

17 flowline_ap_points feature class has been added to table of contents

18 Note: If you are in Editing Mode – Stop Editing Right click on flowline_ap_points Joins and Relates Join…

19 Populate table as shown below Browse to specify output feature class

20 Browse to personal geodatabase, Hydrography Save as type: Personal Geodatabase feature class Name = join_flowline_area Save

21 Click OK

22 join_flowline_area feature class has been added to table of contents

23 Right click on flowline_ap_points Joins and Relates Join…

24 Populate table as shown below Browse to specify output feature class

25 Browse to personal geodatabase, Hydrography Save as type: Personal Geodatabase feature class Name = join_flowline_waterbody Save

26 Click OK

27 Join_flowline_waterbody feature class has been added to table of contents

28 Save mxd Exit ArcMap

29 Windows explorer: Double click on personal geodatabase

30 Open

31 Microsoft Access: Queries Right click in white area Import…

32 Browse to NHDCleanup_Queries.mdb Double click on NHDCleanup_Queries.mdb

33 Select wbareacomid_cleanup1-5 OK

34 The following Sequel statements will be run against your personal geodatabase to find WBAreaComID’s that are Null or incorrect, Calculate them to the correct ID and track the ComID of the features being corrected in the NHDStatus table

50 Right click over NHDFlowline Open Attribute Table

51 Options Select By Attributes

52 Create a new selection Where [FType] = 558 Apply

53 Select from current selection Where [WBAreaComID] IS Null Apply

54 Right click on first record Left click on Zoom to This check will identify artificial paths that still have a WBAreaComID of Null Investigate to determine why they could not be calculated to a value

55 In this case the NHDFlowlines should be changed to Canal/Ditch If all three were not in the same area you would “Zoom to” the next record

56 WBAreaComID NHDArea ComID NHDWaterbody ComID WBAreaComID Spot Check WBAreaComIDs (Entire Dataset)
