8 Some great results… Sam Francis, who works in the Children with Disabilities Team, won a social care award for her ASD work in 2012. Russian officials visited Monmouthshire to research new initiatives for their orphans who have ASD, Sam was invited to visit Russia to talk about best practice in ASD. The Adult Aspergers Virtual Team, set up in 2011 as part of the adult social services team, is working really well with over 60 people now receiving support. We completed our second ASD Action Plan (2011 – 2014) Development of an updated plan for 2014 and beyond will be finalised once the National Plan is refreshed. 9 …more great results! We supported the youth service to fund some equipment for their new sensory garden in Usk. We helped research and develop a user- friendly passport information system with Mark, Monmouthshire's Disability Sports Officer. Newport and Monmouthshire Education Departments are working together to share good practice and to promote an ASD Friendly Schools programme. We have developed a Picture Exchange Communication System for families to use in all of our leisure centres. Teresa, Monmouthshire ASD Co-ordinator accompanied Jo, the National ASD Co-ordinator to Scotland to demonstrate how the Welsh Government ASD Strategic Action Plan for Wales is being delivered at a local level.
