1 Encore….Encore, t The golf getaway group had such a great time in Palm Springs during last year’s event, that all of us who attended, decided it would be a good idea to have a sequel. So, we’re going back to Palm Springs for a second year in a row to celebrate our 6 th annual golf outing. On our last trip we played two outstanding courses which will be tough to rival again. But what the heck, lets give it a try. There are a lot of courses to choose from in Palm Springs and I believe the two selected will be very enjoyable. Both have been rated 4½ stars by Golf Digest. First on the agenda is the Desert Willow Golf Resort – Firecliff course. Desert Willow has two immaculate courses. I assumed our group would like to play the tougher of the two, so we will. Second up is the meticulous Classic Club Course, host site to the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (January 07 & 08). It’s another Arnold Palmer design (as was SilverRock last year), which should present us with plenty of challenges. Golf Date: Sunday – April 3, 2011 Monday – April 4, 2011 Place: The Classic Club Resort Desert Willow Golf Resort Classic Course Firecliff Course First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM Palm Springs allows us to play these two championship, PGA tested courses, without the fees of a private country club. Both establishments have brand new state of the art club houses. The Classic Club’s 63,000 square foot Tuscan style clubhouse has an outdoor terrace that affords spectacular course and mountain views. The Desert Willow course boasts a brand new 53,000 sq. ft. clubhouse which just opened in 2007. Upon entry, a magnificent glass sculpture makes an impressive first impression - soon to be over shadowed by the breath taking vistas. As was the case last year, both golf courses have new state-of-the-art Global Positioning Systems (GPS) in their golf carts! The Classic Club is an Arnold Palmer creation which is truly an oasis and one of the finest layouts anywhere. Voted #7 in California "America’s Best Courses" by GolfWeek 2008 and as "One of the Top Five Public Courses in America in 2007" by Golf Digest. Home of the 2007 and 2008 Bob Hope Classic, the Classic Club is a 7,305 yard 18 hole, par-72 championship course, that has 30 acres of lake/water features, 14 stone bridges, 90 sand traps, rolling terrain and several elevated tees. The fairways are stunning, the greens are meticulously manicured and gorgeous mountains surround you. The practice area is a double-ended targeted grass range, which is complimentary for green fee paying guests. Fees include Yardage Book, Divot Tool, Ball Mark, and unlimited Bottled Water. The Desert Willow Golf Resort features two beautiful courses designed by Michael Hurdzan, Dana Frye and John Cook with large lakes, desert wasteland and bunkers featured throughout. Firecliff, measuring 7,056 yards, is a true test of skill where golfers must negotiate their way around extensive natural areas, numerous water features, and more than 100 bunkers / waste areas. Varied elevations and unique water features have been carefully incorporated into the indigenous desert landscape at this prestigious Coachella Valley course. While enjoying your round remember to take in your surroundings and appreciate the Desert Willow views and beauty. Here is the plan. As was the case the two previous years, Saturday (4/2/11) most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golf has been scheduled for the Classic Club course on Sunday (4/3/11), with our second day of golf taking place at Desert Willow – Firecliff on Monday (4/4/11). Finally, Tuesday (4/5/11) will probably be the return day for most of you. Golf Getaway

2 Last year I made the mistake of selecting the same weekend as the annual Coachella Music Festival to book our outing. Room reservations were tough to come by. Okay…we will stay away from the third weekend in April. A good choice I made last year was staying at the Agua Caliente Casino & Resort. Great pool area, nice casino and fantastic rooms. The rooms were posh and the bathrooms…wow. Sunken tubs and large glass showers with a HD flat screen television in view from both. Room reservations will be up to you. I do not reserve a block of rooms anymore as our group is very diverse in their preferences. Some of our participants like to use their preferred hotel chains and that is fine. Hilton and Marriott Hotels are in the area. Posh/lush resorts as well as inexpensive hotels can easily be found. So, It will be up to each attendee to select and book their own lodging. I have included a list of some of those hotels and their approximate cost per night. Don’t wait too long though. Make your reservations early and guarantee your spot. Last year’s trip was a good turn out. But, after the word gets passed along on just how nice the courses were, I expect an even better showing this year…and for your added golfing pleasure, we will be playing “Closest to the Pin” on all par 3’s both days. Winners will receive a $25 Pro shop gift certificate. Additionally, the group will be playing the always popular, “Orange Ball” tournament on Monday (at Desert Willow), with each member of the winning foursome receiving a $25 Pro shop gift certificate. Lots of chances to win this year! So, don’t miss your opportunity to attend the annual outing. Once again, we will play some great courses, have memorable social activities and consume plenty of man sodas at each of the two 19 th holes. Mark your calendars and make plans to join us! P.S. When checking in, our group now has an official name…”Getaway Gang” This year as in the past, group dinners are planned. I have selected two options, The first dinner social will be at the Yard House located within “The River at Rancho Mirage” on Sunday evening. The second dinner social will be held on Monday evening at Babe’s Barbeque Grill, also at the “The River at Rancho Mirage” If you have any questions, feel free to inquire, Lad Meairs Email: meairs2@comcast.net (home) or laddin.d.meairs@lmco.com (work)meairs2@comcast.netladdin.d.meairs@lmco.com Phones: (925) 978-0170 (home) – (925) 829-8615 ext 330 (work) – (925) 813-2465 (cell) If you are playing both courses, the total will be $220.00 Mail checks to: Lad Meairs 1254 Mokelumne Court Antioch, CA 94531 Terms of Agreement: To get the group tee times and discounted rate of $220 total, per person, for both courses, I had to sign a contract for a minimum of 16 golfers at both golf courses with a $500 non-refundable deposit (each course). Please make up your mind by late February. I have to pay in full, 30 days prior to our scheduled dates (money due NLT March 2, 2011). I need your official commitment and green fees by that date. If you need to wait and settle up in April, I can carry it on my credit card, but you will need to honor your commitment. 3 Website: www.classicclubgolf.com Place: The Classic Club Date: Sunday – April 3, 2011 Course: The Classic Course Tee Time: 9:00 AM (first group) Location: Palm Desert, California Price $90.00 (east of Palm Springs) As host site to the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, this wonderfully maintained 18-hole championship Arnold Palmer design, has provided immeasurable service to the PGA Tour players, novices and visitors to the Palm Springs area. The surrounding mountain vistas of the Coachella Valley combine to make this an incredibly beautiful Troon Golf Experience that all levels of players can enjoy. Classic Club is a true test of golf - challenging yet playable and enjoyable for all levels of players from the five sets of tees. The championship tees measure 7305 yards with a 142 slope and course rating of 75.3. The blues play to 6947 yards with a 137 slope and 73.7 course rating. The average golfer will need to be on his game from the white tees, which measure 6467 yards with a 133 slope. The landscaping throughout is superlative, and the water features add to the surrounding natural beauty. Water hazards come into play on 11 holes and over 90 sand bunkers/sand waste areas are situated along the landing zones off the tee or greenside. Pampas, pines and waterfalls with cascading streams enhance the visual effect of this exquisitely manicured golf course. There are numerous risk/reward opportunities around sand or water, with doglegs bending in either direction. The terrain is quite undulating with several elevated tees and generous, rolling fairways. Sand bunkers and ponds often squeeze the landing zones, challenging the shot making abilities of all levels of golfers. The green complexes are varied - some raised with daunting swales and depressions that make getting up and down a task, and most are well bunkered. The putting surfaces also vary - some medium sized and fairly level, while others are sprawling, tiered, ridged or very undulating. The fairways are immaculate, the bunkering is expertly sculpted, and the greens run quick and true. Meticulous work has gone into to making this a memorable golf experience. As the slope ratings indicate, players of all abilities will be challenged to score their handicap here.

The Firecliff golf course was voted #1 for the 3rd Year in a row by Desert Golf Magazine as the “Best Public Access Golf Course”. This course is a true test of skill where golfers must negotiate their way around extensive natural areas, numerous water features, and more bunkers/waste areas than you can count. While enjoying your round, remember to take in your surroundings and appreciate the Desert Willow views and beauty. Golfers will notice immediately the intricately designed sand bunkers that are strategically located along the well manicured fairways, and near the mildly undulating green complexes. In total there are 100 bunkers - though their intricate designs makes it feel like more. The desert waste areas that help define the fairways are cleaned out so that recoveries are sometimes possible. Landing zones are frequently spacious...the trick is to avoid the sand traps! Holes number one and ten give a good indication of what to expect, as the fairways are replete with these sand hazards The finely sculpted tee boxes are adorned with wildflowers and landscaped shrubbery, and are layered with desert in between - reminding one that this is truly a desert layout.
