2 Food  Acorns and salmon are main source of food.  Acorns are ground into flour then mush.  They used hot stones to cook salmon and mush.  They also ate berries, roots, nuts, and greens.  Hupas ate meat too. Such as elk and deer.

4 House and Location Hupas lived in the northwestern part of California (Humbolt County). There houses are shaped like pyramids. They built there houses out of fir planks and cedar. The houses were built over a small, square, earth pit. There is a small hole cut at the corner for them to get in and out. There are dirt shelves used for storage.

5 Clothing  Men wore a piece of deer skin or if it’s hot they wore something less.  Women wore double aprons.  When warmth was needed they wore robes made out of bunnies.  They used baskets for shade.

6 Fun Facts The headman is always the richest. The name ‘Hupa’came the Yuroks word ‘hupo’. The hupas call themselves ‘natinnoh-hoi’ after natinnoh, The Trinity River. The Hupa villages have about 500 Indians.
