Department Name Overview  The goal of the PI View project was to make it easier for PI’s to see their rate of spending, balance budgets on a monthly basis, and better manage spending and grant renewal applications to avoid overspending and budget gaps.  This initiative was part of the MGH CROI committee to give PI’s a simplified financial report from InSight.  A new graphical view of both direct and indirect costs along with a rate of spending have been built to provide a “snapshot” view of spending and identify how long the project can be sustained at its current pace.  A monthly budget of remaining funds is calculated to help PI’s evenly spend down grant awards.  A new, single line view of salary data allows PI’s to see how an individual is supported across multiple grants. 3

Department Name Enhancement Details “If I don’t want this grant to end up in deficit, how much should I be spending from it for the remaining months?” Estimated Monthly Rate of spending Description: This refers to total direct budget cost available divided by the number of budget months remaining. This lets a user know based on the amount of money left and time, what the average monthly rate of spending should be to stay within budget. Calculation: (Remaining Direct Costs Available) / (Project months remaining: Last GL post - Project End Date) 10

Department Name Enhancement Details “If I keep spending at my current rate, when will I have to renew this grant so I don’t have a budget gap?” Run Rate vs. Number of Months Remaining Description: This tells the user how much time in months they have left before the money runs out against the total number of months left on the project. Calculation: (Remaining Direct Costs Available) / (Average rate of spending). Once this figure is reached it is then listed against the actual number months remaining in the project for reference. 11

12. Department Name Enhancement Details “How am I paying this person? Is their salary aligned with their effort?” Salary Overview/Details pages  New view displays salary sources for a person in one row opposed to multiple rows. This feature is accessed by selecting “PI Support” under the salary view field and then making a selection under the PI list field. 12
