2. What is Zotero? Zotero:  Is a free, easy-to-use citation manager  Helps collect, cite, and share research sources  Lives in the Mozilla Firefox web browser

3. Benefits of Zotero  Easy to archive and retrieve citations and abstracts from the web  Can attach full text or PDF to citation  Efficient way to insert citations and reference list  Allows users to share citations, libraries and archive webpages among staff and external groups

4. Where to start  Sanjeev has created a public, closed AWHONN group for REP and select staff  To begin, read the PDF Quick Start Guide and Demo  Open the Mozilla Firefox Browser  Click on the zotero icon in the bottom right corner of your browser window  Open the zotero pane

6. How to use  Example: Late Preterm Infant article search  Visit Pubmed  Enter your search criteria  Zotero will ‘sense’ when you are looking at an item  A zotero icon will appear in the location bar (near the URL): o For multiple items, a folder icon o For a single item, a book icon

9. Saving the citation  Click on the folder or book icon  Item(s) are saved to the Group Library: AWHONN  A message will inform you the item(s) are being saved  You can see saved items in the middle column of the zotero pane

Three columns in zotero pane Left column: Contains the full library (“My Library) and subcollections  AWHONN staff should save to AWHONN Group Library Middle column: Shows results for articles in a collection Right column: Displays tabs with information on specific article: citation, notes, tags

Insert Citations  Open Microsoft Word  Zotero has a toolbar for inserting citations  In MS 2010 go to the Add-Ins tab to install  Please use APA 6 th Edition for Citation Style  Use the ‘Zotero insert Citation’ icon to insert citations in-text  Use the ‘Zotero insert Bibliography’ icon to insert reference list

13.  To insert citation, select multiple sources  Use green arrow to insert citations  Click Ok  Must insert in-text citations before Zotero will create a reference list

15. Edit Citations  Use icon to edit citations  Use icon to edit bibliography  Use ‘Zotero refresh’ icon to update your references in the Zotero collection  Use icon to open document preferences to change bibliographic style

16. Updates & Sync Zotero  Sanjeev will update Mozilla Firefox  Staff update their own Zotero updates/add-ons/plug-ins  Synchronization allows the researcher to automatically upload a copy of the library to the Zotero server online o All AWHONN users can assess the group library from headquarters or home

17. External Groups  Advisory panels, Evidence-Based guideline reviewers, other AWHONN writers may be added as subgroups  Sanjeev will create subgroups  Please follow Zotero policy and procedure in regard to using subgroups
