Completed in 312 b.C., it was built during the second war against the Samnites 16.5 km long, it starts near Via Prenestina, flows underground and goes towards the Aventine and Celio It has been rebuilt in various periods. The last time it was rebuilt between 11 and 4 b.C., by the Emperor Augustus

Built between 272 and 270 b.C., in part it is above ground, in parts it runs on two levels It takes water from the River Aniene, near Tivoli, at a height of 850 m above sea level It carries 2.111 litres per second and ends at Esquilino Hill

First aqueduct above ground, built in 144 b.C., by Praetor Marcio It is about 90 km long, it is endowed with bridges and canals. It carries about 251 litres per second

It was built in 126 b.C. by censors G. Servilius Caepio and L. Cassius Longinus Its source was on the Alban hills, running only a mere 18 kilometers till it reached Rome The water from the Aqua Tepula, as implied in the name, was tepid and lukewarm, not fit for human consumption

It was built in 33 b.C. by Agrippa, and expanded by Augustus between 11 and 4 b.C. The springs of the Aqua Iulia are situated approximately a half-mile north of the abbey of Grottaferrata, and it ends near Porta Maggiore The water supply was estimated to be 48,000 m3 during a 24-hour period

Aqua Claudia was begun by Emperor Caligula in 38 a.C. and finished in 52 a.C. It is 69 km long, brings water from Subiaco and, like Aqua Iulia, ends its course near Porta Maggiore It delivered to the city about 180,000 cubic meters of water per day

Anio Novus was built in the same period of Aqua Claudia, by Caligula, and it was the longest aqueduct, with its lenght of 87 km. It took its water from river Aniene, bringing 196.627 cubic meters of water per day, and ended in Porta Maggiore, like other acqueducts

This aqueduct, built by Traiano in 109, drew its water from the Bracciano lake It was 57 km long and brought 118,200 cubic meters of water per day up to Gianicolo, on the other side of the River Tevere. It was destroyed by enemies and rebuilt as “Aqua Paola”

Aqua Alexandrina, the last of the most important Roman aqueduct, was built in 226 a.C. under the reign of Alexander Severus in the III century AD It isn’t very long, only 22 km, and brought from 120,000 to 320,000 cubic meters of water per day (depending on the season), from Pantano Borghese to the Terme Alessandrine, near the Pantheon.
