3. Introductory Thoughts Genesis 6 reveals some of the saddest words ever written Verse 5a – Wickedness of man was great Verse 5b – Thoughts of the heart evil continually Verse 6 – Repented God that He had made man Verse 7 – I will destroy man Verse 12b – All flesh had corrupted their way

The Striving of God’s Spirit Genesis 6:3 Speaks of a limited time frame in which man can repent In this passage the time frame given is specific This is the length of time it took Noah to complete the Ark What is the work of God’s Spirit? It is to convict and convert men 1 Peter 3:18-20 – Noah’s Day Matthew 28:18-20 – Our Day

The Extent of the Wickedness Genesis 6:5 Every intent of man’s heart was evil continually A sad picture of corruption – Romans 1:18-32 This is the darkest hour on earth since Adam and Eve sinned in God’s garden Our world is dark and gloomy, but is preserved by faithful Christians Matthew 5:13-16 – Philippians 2:14-16

6. God’s Repentance Genesis 6:6 This is simply God’s reaction to the sin that had overtaken His creation Repented – Sorry – Grieved Since God cannot commit sin or do evil, how then can He repent? God simply went from a state of fellowship with man to one of judgment against man Jonah 3:10

7. How God’s Judgment is Executed Genesis 6:7 God’s judgment is necessitated by man’s sinfulness God’s judgment is inescapable Revelation 21:7-8 All of God’s creation suffers in judgment Romans 8:19-22

8. Lessons to Be Learned Sin has a progressive nature Sin wears a mask Obedient faith is the only answer to sin Wickedness may be great, but God is willing to save the faithful
