Laura R. Harris Abortion Graduation Project

Interest Ethical Importance Hot-Button Issue Impact on Today's Culture

Paper Abortion Should the United States federal government prohibit abortion? The United States federal government should not prohibit abortion because it is constitutional, it aids the parent(s), it shields the child from the detrimental effects of foster care/negative home environment, and it is more healthy for the mother than illegal abortion. Facts: In 2008, 825,564 abortions were reported to the CDC. The abortion rate was 16 for every 1000 women of the ages fifteen to forty-four. The abortion ratio was 234 abortions for every 1000 live births. I learned: The methods in which abortion is conducted Its prevalence in this country Just how strongly people feel about this issue

Product I taught a class for my product. I created a lesson plan and activities for my class, which I taught on April 8 here at CCC to Mr. Cox's class. My product impacted the students I taught by showing them how to think maturely about ethical issues and how to respect others' opinions no matter how much one might disagree with them. My mentor was Mrs. Casebolt, who helped me make my lesson more discussion- oriented and student-involved instead of lecture. By completing the product, I learned about how to act sensitively toward other people who are easily affected by topics such as this one. I also learned to listen actively to other people and their opinions, and how to handle people when they get offended.

Connection Between the Paper and the Product The topic of my paper was abortion. This was the topic for the lesson I taught. The research I used to gather the information from my paper, I also used for the instructional period of my lesson. Both deal with people and their opinions on the subject of abortion. Both analyze the reasoning behind people's ideas and opinions.

Successes and Challenges of GP Successes: –I have finished it. –I got every due date completed on time. –I did not procrastinate. –I did not have to rush to get it done. Challenges: –Meeting the weekly due dates. –Sticking with it even when I had other work to do. –Teaching a class on such a sensitive subject.

Final Process Reflection This project process will help me to organize large projects I may have in the future. It has shown me that setting small goals for myself, is very beneficial when completing a large project. I will take away the time management skills I have learned. I will also take away the ability to be sensitive toward others and their opinions.
