2  El Greco was a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. "El Greco" (The Greek) was a nickname, as he was Greek.  El Greco was born in Crete. In 1577, he moved to Toledo, Spain, where he lived and worked until his death. He received several major commissions and produced his best-known paintings there.  There are several paintings by El Greco in the Hermitage Museum, in Saint-Petersburg. One of them is Apostles Peter and Paul.

3  Tiziano Vecelli, known in English as Titian / ˈ t ɪʃ ə n/ was one the most famous Venician painters.  He lived a long life and died when he was about 90 years old.  There are 8 paintings by Titian in the Hermitage Museum. One of them is Repentant Mary Magdaline.

4  Everyone agrees that Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest of all painters. Leonardo was a genius. He was a great architect, artist, scientist and engineer.  One of Leonardo's paintings is called "Mona Liza". It is the picture of a woman with a faint smile on her face. Now it is one of the greatest treasures of the Louvre in Paris, France.
