ASSE ORGANIZATION ASSE Chapter President: Elected by Chapter members following procedures in Chapter Bylaws Section: a portion of a Chapter made up of at least 10 members having their own officers and meetings Student Section: An ASSE Section made up of students with officers and elected by student members, following procedures in Section Bylaws.

ASSE ORGANIZATION Student Section Faculty Advisor: A faculty member who is also a Chapter member and is appointed by the head of the school’s sponsoring unit. Chapter / Student Section Liaison: A Chapter member appointed by the Chapter President.

ASSE STUDENT SECTION OBJECTIVES Introduce the student member to the Safety Profession Allow student members to meet Safety Professionals in the Chapter and learn from them. Allow Chapter Members to meet and mentor Student Members. Develop working relationships between the ASSE Chapter and the Student Section.

ASSE STUDENT SECTION OBJECTIVES Develop organizational skills relevant to the Safety Profession Allow Student Section Members to design and carry out significant Safety / Health Projects. Provide important visibility for the academic program on campus Assist the program with student recruitment

Must Maintain a minimum of 10 Student Members Must have a Student Faculty Advisor Must have a letter of support from the sponsoring academic unit Must have at least three (3) elected officers President; Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT SECTION TO BE RECOGNIZED BY ASSE

Must have current Student Section Bylaws Must submit an Annual Report REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT SECTION TO BE RECOGNIZED BY ASSE

Have a genuine intent to enter the Safety Profession following graduation Have completed or be enrolled in at least one safety related course. Have completed an ASSE membership application and have a copy on file with the Faculty Advisor REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A STUDENT SECTION MEMBER

REQUIREMENTS TO SERVE AS AN ASSE STUDENT SECTION ADVISOR Be a member of ASSE in good standing Be a faculty member in the sponsoring academic unit Be appointed by the head of the sponsoring academic unit Live close to where Student Section meetings are to be held Willing to work with the Student Section without compromising teaching load.

REQUIREMENTS TO SERVE AS A CHAPTER/STUDENT SECTION LIAISON Being appointed by the Chapter President to begin serving for one year starting July 1. A Chapter member in good standing A member having a genuine interest in working with students A regular attendee at Chapter functions A member who can make regular reports to the Chapter about Student Section activities

FACULTY ADVISOR DUTIES Obtain a Letter of Appointment and support from the head of the sponsoring academic unit Encourage Student Members to hold Section elections in the Spring (end of term). Help the students understand their Section duties, starting in the Summer. Ensure that Society Staff have the names and contact information on all newly elected Section leaders Attend all Section meetings and report all proceedings to the Chapter / Section Liaison Help students to select appropriate projects for the Student Section to undertake. Help the student members to monitor the progress of project work

CHAPTER BENEFITS FROM STUDENT INTERATCION Help to recruit new members Obtaining assistance with Chapter duties Bring new and fresh ideas to the Chapter Gain a point of contact for finding interns and COOPs Meet job candidates and help to recruit them.
