Tuesday, May 26 th Get out your R/W notebook and read SILENTLY!

 Step 1: Review the rubric on Netschool with your group.  Step 2: Work with your research group to describe a real-life problem as it was presented in your historical fiction novel. (You will work in your historical fiction book club groups.) For this assignment, you will research that problem, determine how it was resolved, and propose an alternate solution. You will also research to find a similar problem happening currently, and propose a possible solution based on your research of both events.  Step 3: Create an overall guiding question for your group’s research. Make a research plan. (There are questions for your research plan on netschool.) Book Project/Research

 Step 4: Research the different pieces independently:  Original problem in history  How that problem was solved  Current problem that is similar to the one you read about in your book (If you can’t find one, you will have to examine another problem from your book.)  What is currently being done about the current problem and possible solutions to that problem.  Step 5: In your independent research, you will need to create an annotated bibliography (cite source, summarize, and write how it could be used for your project) for each source you find. Book Project/Research

 Step 6: Go through any information you found independently, and make notes of pieces that could be used for your project, and how it could be used. The information must lead toward answering the essential question in some way.  Step 7: Each person should share out his/her research to each piece (in the order from the last slide). Make any notes as a group for how you want to present your information. Agree on what issue you want to focus on for your current event piece, as well as a possible research-based solution. Book Project/Research

 Step 8: Use any web-based program (Anything you used for book club projects is fine as long as it clearly presents the information. EX: strip generator and toondoo aren’t appropriate, because the format doesn’t lend itself to presenting research and ideas.) to:  present your overlying research question,  the problem as it was presented in the novel,  the problem as it really happened and its historical significance,  a modern-day problem that is similar,  possible research-based solution to that problem.  Step 9: Make sure ALL members’ names are included. ONE person needs to submit it to the turn-in tray on NetSchool. Book Project/Research
