4 Mendicant Orders (Comp Book page 88 - continued) Mendicant Orders (also known as friars) Read the handout – page 536 Some Monks chose to be a part of the Mendicant Order. (these were known as friars) They were like monks, but lived in the public teaching about Christianity. They owned very little, so often asked others for food and other necessities.
