2 creating a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities March of Dimes Canada  Founded in 1951 to raise funds to eradicate the threat of Polio in Canada  MODC is an organization dedicated to creating a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities  Runs three programs in Nova Scotia

3 creating a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities What is Conductive Education®?  Merges education with rehabilitation  Holistic approach  Works with individuals with neurological disabilities  Aim is to maximize independence and potential  Works with families to provide education and support

4 creating a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities Neuroplasticity and CE  Learning can produce structural changes in the brain  Anyone can learn  Multiple parts of the brain can be active in any one activity  Brain activity associated with a given function can move to a different location
