1 1.33 Record time using the 24-hour clock.
Charts, Graphs the 24-hour Clock Analyze diagrams, charts, graphs, and tales to interpret healthcare results. 1.33 Record time using the 24-hour clock.

2 Teacher Notes: The purpose of the first five slides of this PowerPoint is to teach students how to read charts, graphs, etc. The actual practice requires analytical skills. Some students will pick it up quickly, and others will need more time to become comfortable reading charts. You can help by using this PowerPoint to talk about a variety of charts and graphs, and give students practice in interpreting charts, graphs and tables. Suggested questions are included for each graph. Additional questions should be posed by the teacher. What will this graph tell us? What was the average amount of time physicians spent with patients in 2005? (See notes under graph) Would it be accurate to say that short visits got even shorter, but longer visits got even longer? Percent distribution of office visits where a physician was seen by duration of visit, according to year: United States, 1995 and 2005

3 Are children from some population subgroups more likely to be breastfed than others?
Sample questions: What group has the highest percentage of breast-feeding their infants? What group has had the greatest percentage increase in breastfeeding since 1993? Would you say the trend is toward more breast feeding, less breastfeeding, or mostly unchanged?

4 Sample questions: What is the reason for most non-fatal injuries? What age group is most frequently seen in emergency departments because of motor vehicle accident injuries?

5 Sample questions: In 1980, what type of degree did most nursing graduates earn? In 2004, what type of degree did most nursing graduates earn? What type of degree has seem the greatest change? If 2008 were added to the chart, what would you expect to see?

6 Current, Binge, and Heavy Alcohol Use among Persons Aged 12 or Older, by Age: 2007
Sample questions: From ages 26 to 54, the percent of people who use alcohol is fairly consistent, but what type of use significantly decreases? Does anything on the chart surprise you? Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Office of Applied Studies (2008). Results from the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: National Findings (NSDUH Series H-34, DHHS Publication No. SMA  ). Rockville, MD.

7 The 24-hour Clock The 24-hour clock uses 4 numbers without punctuation. 1:00 am is 0100 3:30 am is 0330 6:15 am is 0615 10:00 am is 1000 12:30 pm is 1230

8 The 24-hour Clock Once you pass 12 noon, keep numbering up to 24. That way, there is no a.m. or p.m. 1:00 pm is 1300 3:30 pm is 1530 6:15 pm is 1815 10:00 pm is 2200 11:30 pm is 2330 Midnight is 2400
