1 Larry loved fishing. He often told me about growing up in Wyoming where one can “throw a nymph in the river, let it swing, and boom, there is a fish”. Larry and I fished a lot, but for some reason we never managed to catch much. Going fishing and talking to Larry was great fun. On our trips Larry would always catch me up on the latest news from Cody, Wyoming. He really kept up with the happenings in Cody and took genuine interest in that town. On our trips we would discuss how we needed go fishing more often, talked about what problems the world had, talked politics and religion, and then always back to fishing. We tried catching wild steelhead for two Winters and finally told ourselves that because there were so few wild fish left we probably should leave them alone. We would stop fishing for them not for our lack of skills but for ensuring the long term survival of the fish. Larry and I both were happy about our reasoning. Larry cared deeply about the land, the rivers, and the environment. He saw beauty all around through his artistic eyes and gentle soul. Alan Yen August 2010
