1
Photosynthesis And Cellular Respiration
2
Photosynthesis Process where plants and other organisms use the sun’s energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugars.
3
How Is It Done? Water enters through the roots and stomata. Carbon dioxide enters through the stomata. Chlorophyll in the chloroplasts is needed.
4
Two Stages Chlorophyll collects the sun’s energy. Water & carbon dioxide combine to make sugar and oxygen.
5
The equation
6
Cellular Respiration Cells break down simple sugars (glucose) and release the energy. –Stored energy comes from our food. –Done in all living things.
7
Two Ways to Get Energy Cellular respiration –Uses oxygen. –Mitochondria. Fermentation –Without oxygen. –Done in your muscles (lactic acid) & yeast/bacteria.
8
Two Stages Sugar is broken down in the cytoplasm. ATP is released in the mitochondria
9
The Equation
10
Photosynthesis & Respiration are opposite reactions.
