1 The space Needle By Isobel Williamson

2 Fun facts about the Space Needle
The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, USA. It was built in 1962 as a tourist attraction for the World's Fair.. The Observation Deck is 520 feet above ground. The SkyCity Restaurant revolves 500 feet above the ground, so you can see all around the city, while eating your dinner! To make the 605 foot tower safe, the Space Needle’s concrete foundation had to be 30 feet deep because it was built on a small surface area The Space Needle’s top, an aircraft warning beacon, is 605 feet tall and is also a lightening conductor It cost $4.3 million to build – a bargain by today's standards! The SkyCity Restaurant revolves at 500 feet. The SkyLine Banquet Facility hosts events at 100 feet

3 The Space Needle story In 1959 a rich hotel owner, Edward E. Carlson, wanted to create something special for his home town of Seattle. It was to be the main attraction at the World's Fair, which was to have a futuristic theme. He sketched a drawing on a paper napkin, one lunchtime in a coffee house. Everyone love his drawing but building it proved to be very difficult because of its flimsy shape, costly building materials and arguments over the location.

4 The scribble on the left.....
….became the drawing on the right....

5 The Re-vamp In 2000, the Needle underwent a revitalisation. A new pavilion level was created, a new restaurant and a new shop. It was completely repainted and had new light installations which dominate the skyline at night. The space needle at night, and during the day.

6 I hope you enjoyed my space needle project THE END
