2 EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATION Type, size and weight of detector Type: RPCs and similar Size: Minimum 10 x 10 cm 2 Maximum 3 x 5 m 2 Weight: upto 200 kg per unit (x 5 for a 3mx5m module) Required Intensities: tbd (10 TBq) Intention to use the filters, additional details on the use of filters: YES details (Not yet approved..) complexity cost..RPC Continuity of present work

3 Space and electrical power requirements Required floor space in GIF++ area: Footprint = 5 m x 3 m Height above floor: 5m Max. cable length: 60-80 m Space in control room: 4 PCs and seating Remote operation, shift operation: Yes Power requirements: To be defined (Guestimate 3 kW + UPS) Cooling requirements: Yes, cooling water, alu circuit 16-18 deg C would be useful but clearly exact specs to be defined Additional requirements/comments:

4 Additional installations (e.g. Magnets, Platforms) Magnet: Yes - Uniform field (for small R&D chambers what can be available?) Cryogenics: NO Platforms: ? One Rail for movement with remote control for scanning without entering zone.. General feature of zone.. Temperature controlled area: Yes Additional requirements/comments: Need a tent around chambers with T, H control, measurements available online Ambient meas T,H

5 Time / space needed for installation/de- installation in the preparation area/GIF++ zone Installation in the preparation area: A footprint 3 x 5 m 2 Test in the preparation area: Additional comments to installation/tests in preparation area: A few gas lines and a rack may be useful for quick validation of detector (after transport from construction site) before installation Electronics for couple racks inside and/or very close by, (short cables) Electronics in control room – 5 racks

6 Installation in GIF++ area: Storage area needed (e.g. during the test period or long term. Please indicate space needed) Additional requirements/comments: Storage / waiting (hospital) area will be useful. Would need a footprint 3x5 m 2

7 OPERATION AND TEST PROCEDURE Requested irradiation time (e.g. 1 week, 1 month, multiple periods): Multiple periods of weeks (performance tests), months and years (for aging tests) for different detectors (R&D, assembled prototypes, final detectors) Is beam needed, if yes, please specify: Muon beam (for perf. tests) Hadrons (infrequently, perf. tests) Electrons (infrequently, perf. tests) with monitoring online

8 Beam instrumentation required: Access to zone during test, if yes, please indicate how often: YES The detector has to be moved during the tests, if yes, please indicate what is the procedure: TBD (Rail would avoid frequent access need) Dose need to be measured, if yes, which precision and resolution: YES as best as possible, filter system needed for understanding dose versus area irradiated (uniform dose over detector area with filter system) Computer equipment and data storage required: BASIC INFRA for information management of enviromental measurements, cosmics trigger, moving rail, doses, beam conditions. This is imp for outside sub-groups, unusual yet essential YES – Preferably online

9 SAFETY HAZARDS 1. Flammable / poisonous / SPECIAL /NEUTRAL gases (e.g. Ar/CH4 90/10): YES GAS ES, MIXTURES: Freon, Isobutane, Methane, CF4,..Ar/H2, SF6, Pure Ar and N2, Ar, CO2 2. Pressure / vacuum / cryogenics (e.g. gas detectors under pressure, LAr detectors): NO 3. Laser (e.g. UV-lasers for calibration purposes, N2-, Nd:YAG-lasers): NO 4. Irradiated materials and sources (e.g. detectors or any materials that have been irradiated): TBD
