We digest food and release its energy in our mitochondria. That process Uses oxygen that we inhale and makes CO2 as waste. What process causes CO2 to leave our cells go to our blood leave our blood & go into our lungs where it is exhaled?

Cellular respiration uses oxygen that we inhaled that then diffused throughout the body to the cells.

Potato Diffusion Mini Lab Predict the direction of the flow of water through semi-permeable membranes when potato pieces are placed in different solutions. When water diffuses through a selectively permeable membrane it is called osmosis. The water travels from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.

1.Get a triple beam balance, 2 pieces of potato, a beaker /60ml of salt water, a beaker/100ml pure water, label beakers 2.Weigh and record the weight of each potato. Record which piece you place in salt water and which piece you place in pure water. 3.Predict which way water will flow according to your osmosis diffusion notes For each of the following situations 1.potato into salt water. 2.potato into pure water.

Potato Diffusion Mini Lab make the following chart Weight of potato before soaking in solution Weight of potato after soaking in solution Distilled WaterSalt Water H2O H2O + NaCl prediction

This are how digested food molecules and water move from your intestines to your cells? Diffusion. Once glucose molecules diffuse into cells they break down and enter the mitochondria and are used in a process called cellular respiration.

Cellular (in cell ) Respiration (with oxygen) Plant & animal cells use sugar & oxygen to release energy. Cellular Respiration happens in the cell’s mitochondrion. The mitochondria put together the reactants, oxygen & sugar, and make the products carbon dioxide, water, and energy (ATP). Reactants are substances that make new products when put together. Products are what is made when reactants react.

Types of cellular respiration Aerobic respiration uses oxygen-releases energy, carbon dioxide, and water Anaerobic respiration occurs when oxygen is NOT present this is referred to as fermentation. 2 Types of fermentation 1. Lactic acid formation- damages muscles 2. fermentation – yeast forms alcohol
