6  Originated in America, However it was too expensive to be used widespread, system cost $250,000 and $1,000 per hour to run.  1990’s - technical advances in Internet Protocol (IP) and more efficient video compression technologies were developed that would allow desktop or PC-based videoconferencing. 8  1991 - Wi-Fi was invented by Vic Hayes an American business man, NCR Corporation  Then products were brought on the market under the name WaveLAN with speeds of 1Mbps/2Mbps.  However other businesses were rolling out cheaper Wi- Fi solutions so the creator of Wi-Fi retired from the business.
