Lidar distribution system for OLC lidar Rudie Watzig, Senior GIS Analyst Oregon Dept. of Geology and Mineral Industries Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015

Oregon Lidar Consortium: Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015 $16.4 million collected from 64 unique partners for 32,841 square miles of lidar data. 25,800 square miles has been completed. DOGAMI expects to collect an additional 3,932 square miles of data in 2015 Existing data is approximately 40 terabytes capacity. DOGAMI anticipates a total of 60 terabytes be the end of the 15-17 biennium. Current state data center rates, 60 terabytes of storage would be approximately $7,200 monthly

Relation to the framework: Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015 E-FIT Goal 2: Provide professional and well-coordinated elevation services that support the diverse needs of Oregon. Expanding the distribution of high quality lidar data, E-FIT can provide more benefits to other FITS, such as Hazards, Geoscience, Hydrography, Utilities, Transportation, Land Cover and Preparedness.

Current system of lidar delivery: Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015 OLC lidar data is finalized OLC partners supply hard drive via mail to DOGAMI DOGAMI organizes data for each partner, uploads to drives DOGAMI ships the drives to the OLC partner Typically, OLC partner gets only the current project data. DOGAMI gets a constant stream of requests for both LAS points and Raster data. Custom data requests are a poor use of our limited staff.

Current system: Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015 There is a lidar imagery service on Imagery Explorer, but it is very much out of date. The data on imagery explorer was developed with second hand copies, and we do not support them, and our QC Certifications do not apply to this data. There are errors in imagery explorer data. If DOGAMI served the data, we would support it and certify its accuracy. To get LAS files, one must go through the USGS, which is a clunky system and limits users to 100 tiles per search. Native OLC data Imagery Explorer data

Proposed system: Framework Review Committee, April 29 th, 2015 60 terabyte server connected to the internet PSOB has 1GBPs data connection, DAS has promised to allocate 800MBPs to DOGAMI. We will have the bandwidth to serve large amounts of data, and DOGAMI will cover bandwidth costs. Web facing site: Map where user can click on lidar project areas (likely Javascript map built on ESRI WebApp Builder platform.) Project areas will have ability to download 3 foot raster files for entire project (or subsets for very large project areas) More detailed zoom level will show 1/100 th Quad OLC tiles, click to download LAS or LAZ.
