Child Predators  The purpose of descriptive typology is not to gain insight or understanding about why child molesters have sex with children in order to help or treat them, but to recognize and evaluate how molesters have sex with children in order to identify, arrest, and convict them. Child Molester  Adult who sexually exploits children  Demonstrates aberrant behaviors defined as illegal under criminal statutes  Art of seduction  Often takes years for case to emerge as criminal complaint  Others use force and violence, drawing immediate attention.

Child Molester or Pedophile  Terms used interchangeably  One can be diagnosed with pedophilia and not be a child molester, if person does not sexually abuse children.  One can be a molester and not have pedophilia disorder.  Pedophilia means “lover of children.”  In reality, it means “destroyer of children.”
