2 The traditional bread oven in Fayence Located in a small street in the heart of the village, You can find, not very easilly, the old village bread oven. It was built in 1522 and for many centuries, villagers used it to bake their bread and other dishes. Unfortunately, it went into decay and wasn’t usesd anymore. In 1997, a group of local men and women interested in the village culture decided to restaure and exhibit the oven to the public. They created an association called « Les amis du four du Mitan » and decided to have a big celebration every two years : « La fête du pain » (Festival of bread)

3 Inside the oven

4 You can visit the oven filled with wax figures dressed the way they were in 1897 and surrounded by old objects of this period. There, you can have through posters and audio-guides all the details concerning the oven and the ancestral life.

6 For the particular day, the old oven is used again thanks to the local bakers and breads are sold in the streets of Fayence. For this occasion, the village was been totally transformed and decorated as it was more than one century ago. Nearly all the villagers wore old costumes and hats.
