Which group would have the greatest problem during periods of high inflation that last several years?

2 Economic Awareness Activity Basics We are about to start an activity called Villages, based upon Oregon Trail, Mafia and Monopoly. This is a game based upon the buying and selling of resources. You will each receive a slip of paper with a profession, a list of advantages, and a budget. Your goal is to win the activity with the most money.

3 Economic Awareness Activity Example Slip Profession: Hunter Advantages: (Offensive) Trapped – Only use once. You may render all Advantages of a player inert. (Defensive) Tracker – You can't be spied on. (Fruitful) Night of the Hunt – Each other player loses a Tools for each Food they have. Budget: $200 // Keep Track of your Trades / Hint: Keep everything secret

4 Economic Awareness Activity Buying and Selling In this game, you trade resources and money. Labor, Food, Shelter, Protection and Tools are resources that will be traded. The game is divided into three types of periods: market, upkeep and endgame. During Upkeep periods, you are able to buy resources from the instructor. You must report your trades to the instructor during this time. There will be certain events that change the economic setting. Offensive advantages may be used during this time. During Market periods, you are able to trade freely with other players. There is only one Endgame period, it is at the end of the game. Certain advantages will become active during this time. Player resources will be sold for set prices once all possible advantages have taken place. Scores will be tallied during this time.

5 Economic Awareness Activity Tips You are not obligated to show someone your slip. Each slip has unique advantages, and a hint to making through the scenario as that profession.  Example Hint: “Keep everything secret.” I suggest having at least one of each resource, but it isn't necessarily needed Think Capitalism. The Instructor sells all resources starting at $25 each, this price will change from Upkeep to Upkeep.

8 Economic Awareness Activity Upkeep (1 of 4) Resources sell for $25 each.

9 Economic Awareness Activity Upkeep (2 of 4) Resources sell for $75 each. If you have no Food, you lose. If you have no Labor, you lose a Food. If you have no Tools, you lose a Shelter. If you have no Shelter, you lose next Upkeep if you don't have a Protection by then. If you have less than 3 Protection, you lose $50. Mercenaries gain all money and resources lost from these effects.

10 Economic Awareness Activity Upkeep (3 of 4) Resources sell for $100 each. If you have no Food, you lose. If you have no Labor, you lose a Food. If you have no Tools, you lose a Shelter. If you have less than 2 Shelter, you lose next Upkeep if you don't have 3 Protection by then. If you have less than 4 Protection, you lose $50. If you do not have a Tools by next Upkeep, you lose. Mercenaries gain all money and resources lost from these effects.

11 Economic Awareness Activity Upkeep (4 of 4) Resources sell for $100 each. If you have no Food, you lose. If you have no Labor, you lose a Food. If you have no Tools, you lose. If you have no Shelter, you lose during the Endgame if you don't have a Protection by then. If you have less than 2 Protection, you lose due to dysentery. If you have less than 2 Tools, you lose a Food. Mercenaries gain all money and resources lost from these effects.
