5 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Doctor Visit
2
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. 1 Doctors can do a lot of things, but they can’t read your mind. The more you ask questions and talk about your concerns, the easier it will be for your doctor to give you answers and advice.
3
Have a game plan. 2 Write down specific questions and things to your doctor about. Making a list may feel silly, but it helps make sure you don’t forget anything while you’re sitting in the waiting room.
4
Know thyself …and thy family history. 3 Provide as much information as possible about your personal health history and the health history of your family members. Giving these facts to your doctor will help make sure you’re getting all the routine tests and screenings you need.
5
Follow directions. 4 Did you know that as many as one 1-in-3 prescriptions are never filled by the patient? Follow your doctor’s instructions and take all medications as directed to make sure you’re doing what you need to do to get and stay healthy.
6
Consider bringing a +1. 5 If you’re older or nervous about visiting the doctor, think about bringing a close friend or family member. Having a second set of eyes and ears can help to avoid confusion and misunderstandings.
