Drawings, Tables, and Graphs

Drawings A drawing is sometimes the best choice to show details. A drawing can show things you can’t see. –Example: You can’t see the entire solar system, but a drawing shows you what it looks like. A drawing can show you hidden details. –Example: The water cycle.

Tables and Graphs Definition: Tables and graphs use numbers to compare measurements in an organized way to collect and display data. Table: Displays information in rows and columns so that it is easier to read and understand.

Table

Graph Graph is used to collect, organize, and summarize data in a visual way Three common types of graphs are –Line –Bar –Circle

Line Graph A line graph shows the relationship between two variables. One variable is shown on the x-axis and one is on the y-axis. Where are the two axis’s. What are the two variables shown? What does the line represent?

Bar Graph A bar graph uses rectangular blocks, or bars, of varying sizes to show the relationship among variables.

Bar Graph

Circle Graph Circle graphs are sometimes called pie graphs. Circle graphs show parts of the whole. Think of a pizza cut into parts. A circle is how many degrees? Each part is a fraction of the whole.

Circle Graphs

Reading Graphs The scale of a graph can be misleading. Open your text book to pg. 57. –Note the two bar graphs at the top of the page. Both have exactly the same data, however, the manner it is presented could cause you to have different conclusions. –Read paragraphs under Reading graphs.

Notebook Check Tomorrow you must have your notebooks organized. Each paper must be present in order. There should be 15 pages. The notebook counts as 10% of your grade. This should be the easiest grade you get in this class.
