Fishing-Types of Fish The main types are halibut, salmon, eulachon, sturgeon, and ling cod. They preserved the fish by smoking and drying them. The father caught the fish. The mother prepared them. The children helped the parents.

Weirs A weir is a type of a fence. Weirs are built across a stream. Salmon are trapped against the fence. Fishermen spear or net for their fish.

Nets Twine is made from cedar bark and stem of nettle plants. Reefs are nets between canoes. A dip net has a long handle with a net attached. Bag shaped nets are stretched across the stream to attach to the posts.

Traps Traps are made out of logs or rocks placed on the beach. They used the tides to catch the fish.

Hooks, Lures,Rakes and Harpoons. Halibut are caught by hooks. Ling cod are caught by spears and lures. Smelt are caught by rakes and dip nets. Salmon are caught by spears.
