1 Israel Mardor, LINAC12 Chair IOC Meeting, IPAC13, Shanghai, 15 May 2013 Final Report to IOC 26 th Linear Accelerator Conference Sep 9 - 14, 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel

2 IOC meeting in IPAC 2013 Joseph Luner, LINAC12 LOC Chair, Soreq NRC Local Organization 26 th Linear Accelerator Conference Sep 9 - 14, 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel

3 Registration Statistics  316 people registered to the conference  Including attendees, students, exhibitors, guests, staff  35 students  24 exhibitors (representing 18 companies)  18 people registered to the companion program  140 people registered to the conference tour (including accompanying people)

Total attendances per country 4

5 Exhibition  18 companies hired a booth

6 Sponsors  4 companies only

Budget – Expenses 7

Budget – Income 8

9 Budget Comments  Less exhibitors & sponsors than expected  More early registrations than expected (> 250)  Under-estimation of various expenses (“imported” editors, computing & networking, security, audiovisual)  Currency ratio changed (1$ = 3.5 NIS  1$ = 4 NIS)  Local VAT changed (16%  17%)  Over-attendance of opening reception (double of estimation…)  Supported 35 students (w.r.t to standard ~20)…  … Was possible due to a 42k$ contribution from LINAC10  IAEC provided a “balancing network” to the conference…  … Overall balance = 0

10 For IOC meeting in IPAC 2013 Dan Berkovits, LINAC12 SPC Chair, Soreq NRC Scientific Program 26 th Linear Accelerator Conference Sep 9 - 14, 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel

Scientific Program Committee  First meeting, CERN, 19-20/1/2012, 28 members  “To select the best/appropriate recommended titles/abstracts/speakers from the given list in order to build an attractive program for LINAC12”  Second meeting, CERN, 29/5/12, 11 members  “To select the best/appropriate abstracts, from a given list, for short (5 min) oral presentation, in order to build an attractive program for LINAC12” 11

12 Topical balance of invited talks  LINAC04  Electron, Hadron, Other = 330, 360, 430 min  LINAC06  Electron, Hadron, Tech, Extreme = 350, 260, 270, 270 min  LINAC08  Electron, Proton/Ion, Tech, Extreme = 290, 440, 170, 200 min  LINAC10  Electron, Proton/Ion, Tech, Extreme = 260, 380, 300, 170 min  LINAC12 goal  Proportion reflects the recommendation list but not far from LINAC10  Electron, Proton/Ion, Tech, Extreme = 280, 350, 250, 220 min

13 30 minute vs. 20 minute talks  LINAC04  23x20 min + 22x30 min = 1120 minutes  LINAC06  23x20 min + 23x30 min = 1150 minutes  LINAC08  32x20 min + 17x30 min = 1150 minutes  LINAC10  30x20 min + 17x30 min = 1110 minutes  LINAC12  33x20 min + 16x30 min = 1140 minutes

From the Editor’s Table Mick Draper (Editor in Chief) – CERN John Poole – ex CERN (v. experienced editor and SPMS expert) Leif Liljeby – Stockholm Univ. (v. experienced editor) Christian Carli – CERN Sergiu Lupu (from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem) – new to SPMS Tamar Goldin (Ortra) – interface to public, some SPMS too. The LINAC 12 editorial team 17 Mick: “Editing effort for this conference was just about right” Breaking News – LINAC12 Proceedings are online in the JACOW website! http://accelconf.web.cern.ch/AccelConf/LINAC2012/index.htm ISBN: 978-3-95450-135-9

New session numbering concept  Posters of students that were presented in the Student Poster Session received the numbering SUPBXXX (in addition to their standard poster session numbering)  Posters that were granted a 5-minute oral presentation received the numbering YYPLBXXX (in addition to their standard poster session numbering)  In Conference Guide and Online Proceedings, abstracts of above posters appear twice, both in special and regular session… ... A headache for the Editors but better service to the delegates (we hope)  As part of above change, opted for a A4 Conference Guide with all abstracts, including posters 18

Proceedings - Invited Talks  Invited talks49 [47 in linac10]  Paper submitted39 (80%) [90% in linac10]  No paper submitted10  Recent Achievements on Laser Plasma Accelerators  Status of Fermilab Project X  Review of FEL Projects  Synchronization of Accelerator Sub-systems with Ultimate Precision  Advances in Photonic and Metamaterial RF structures  First Electron Beam Operation of the LANL NCRF Photoinjector  Electron Beam Current-profile Shaping via Transverse-to-longitudinal Phase-space Exchange  High-Field Short-Period Microwave Undulators  Emittance-partitioning Strategies for Future Accelerator Applications  Commissioning and Operation of the Californium Rare Ion Breeder Upgrade at ATLAS  2 invited speakers submitted papers after end of the conference  All, but one, published their presentation slides in the proceedings  7 missing papers are from NA 3 are from EUR 19

 Abstracts submitted:281 [305 in LINAC10]  Both poster and paper presented 262 (93.2%) [94.4% in LINAC10]  Students posters  Abstracts submitted39  Students supported 35  Posters presented35 (100%)  Papers submitted30 (85.7%)  Students’ support required poster presentation but it was not clear to the students that the paper is part of the deal too! Proceedings - Posters 20

Proceedings - Presentation Slides  Invited talks49  Slides published in proceedings44 (90%) [69% in LINAC10]  5 min oral presentation33  Slides published in proceedings27 (82%) 21
