Warm-Up 3/17 & 3/18 (In your notebook) What is a gene pool? How are allele frequencies related to gene pools? As a team, come up with a way to draw me a picture of a gene pool for a population where the trait for height was T=tall, t=short and there were 30 homozygous dominant, 10 heterzygous, and 10 homozygous recessive individuals? Draw it and then calculate the frequency for the “T” allele.
7
Today’s Objectives Learning GoalsExpectationsTEKS covered Review allele frequencyBe able to calculate the frequency of an allele in a population when given the number of total individuals and their genotypes 6C, 6D Visually review evolution of populations Complete a diagram to show how allele frequencies change 6C, 6D, 12D Review evidence of evolution As a team, list the 4 different types of evidence we examined in the evolution lab 7A Learn about biotechnologyComplete the webquest
8
Words to Know All of your current vocabulary (KEY to this unit!) is on our new class Quizlet site. Log on to: mrsdavisbiology.weebly.commrsdavisbiology.weebly.com
9
Concept Review Team Challenge (5 minutes): Complete the visual guide from the board. When you are happy with what you have, raise your hand for me to check. Roles: 1) Drawer 2) Materials Manager 3) Time Keeper 4) Note taker/information seeker
10
Concept Review Final Team Challenge: Describe the 4 different types of evidence we used to help demonstrate the theory of evolution in the Evolution Lab. Which type of evidence did YOU think was the most interesting? Why? Roles: 1) Speaker (will speak for the group) 2) Note TAKER 3) Time Keeper 4) Information seeker
11
How comfortable are you with the material? Words? Concepts? Background Information? Where to go for help: FIT Tutoring with Mrs. Davis MrsDavisBiology.weebly.com
12
Biotechnology What is Biotechnology? What types of things do people in biotechnology work on?
13
EXPLORE Biotechnology Webquest Go to the address on your sheet. Use the site to help you finish this worksheet. Turn in to the back folder by the end of class. This will be a grade – - you must finish it.
14
For Next Time… What YOU need to doExpectation Study for the EOC quiz - make sure you are comfortable with the evidence for evolution Try out the new Quizlet site on MrsDavisBiology.weebly.com Do the Quiz Recovery if you received under a 70 on the last quiz. Quiz recovery is on: MrsDavisBiology.weebly.com
