TEIN2 Project - Initial Consideration (revised) - 2003. 12. 20 Kilnam Chon

Content 1.TEIN2 Project 2.ASEM Countries : Asia 3.Backbones 4.Link for Each Developing Country 5.Remark Appendix

1. TEIN2 Project Connecting Asian countries of ASEM, and to Europe for promotion of research and development. Harmonize development of domestic research and education networks to TEIN2 and other international networks. Multi-year project in February 2004 - December 2007 with 3 million ecu per year from Europe to cover 80% or less with the rest to be covered by Asia. DANTE is carrying on the study now.

2. ASEM Countries: Asia ASEAN: Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam CJK: China, Japan, Korea

3. Backbones (1) Inter-Continental Link could use the existing links (Europe to JP, HK, or CN) with 2.5 Gbps, more or expand the current link of France-Korea to 1 Gbps or more, or install a new link. (2) Intra-Asia Backbone Connect North Asia Cluster of China-Hong Kong-Japan- Korea to Southeast Asia Cluster of Malaysia-Singapore- Thailand with 1 Gbps or more.

4. Link for Each Developing Country Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam may connect to the proposed cluster (hub) or to one of the North Asia clusters (CN, HK, JP, KR) at 45~155 Mbps.

5. Remark (1) We may support development of domestic research and education network through this project. Thus, good representation and participation from these developing countries are very important. (2) We may add other countries in Southeast Asia and/or South Asia by expanding the project scope or by developing complementary projects.
