Choosing the appropriate color/wavelength when using a colorimeter Students should choose the wavelength of light that corresponds to the wavelength of visible light that absorbs the maximum number of photons for a particular solution. This wavelength can be estimated by choosing a wavelength of light that represents a color that is opposite in color from the solution color. See Diagram: Red Orange Violet Yellow Blue Green
