“We Will Listen to Our God!” Jeremiah 42:1-17

All of us should sense the crossroads at which we are. Because of this we ought to sense the need for wisdom…

Jerusalem had just been destroyed by Babylon. Most of Judah had been taken away into captivity, but a remnant remained…

Purpose: to see what we must do at all crossroads (decision making points) in our life

If we will listen to our God we must do the following three things as revealed through out text:

IWillingly Seek God (vv 1-6) A. He Must be Sought in All Honesty

Our short sightedness cannot determine what is for our good or for our detriment in the long run!

IWillingly Seek God (vv 1-6) A. He Must be Sought in All Honesty B.He Must be Sought in All Faith

James 1:5-6 “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

Matthew 21:22 “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

IIWillingly Wait for God (vv 7-12) A. God’s Guidance is Never Hurried B.God’s Guidance Often Develops Slowly

Philips Brooks author and preacher “The trouble is that I’m in a hurry, but God isn’t!”

Isaiah 30:18 “Blessed are those who wait on the Lord.”

Isaiah 49:23 “…Those who hopefully wit for Me will not be put to shame.”

“Patience is a virtue that often carries a lot of wait.”

IIWillingly Wait for God (vv 7-12) A. God’s Guidance is Never Hurried B.God’s Guidance Often Develops Slowly C.God’s Guidance is Sure

IIIWillingly Obey God (vv 13-17) A. Not to Insist on Our Preferences B.Must Endure the Lord’s Chastening

Isaiah 1:19 “If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”

“You will discover that in nearly every class, there will be a student eager to argue. Your first impulse will be…”

Conclusion and Summary Each of us assembled here this morning are at crossroads. How are we going to decide which way to turn? Unlike the remnant of Judah, let us willingly SEEK, WAIT, and OBEY the guidance of the Lord. Let us listen to our God!
