Which Jersey Shore do PA Teenagers Go To? ASSUMPTIONS 1.Categorical Data 2.SRS 3.All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 CHECKS 1.Shore points are categorical 2.Stated 3.5 cell counts ≥ 5 Conditions met  x 2 distribution  x 2 GOF Test x 2 GOF Test

Which Jersey Shore do PA Teenagers Go To? Ho: The distribution of visited shore points is uniformly distributed Ha: The distribution of visited shore points is not uniformly distributed P(χ 2 >140.4/df=13)= 1.750 x 10 -23 We reject Ho because the p-value of 1.750 x 10 -23 is less than α=0.05. The distribution of visited shore points is not uniformly distributed

Which Jersey Shore do PA Teenagers Go To? Ocean City is the most popular shore point among Pennsylvanian Teenagers Wildwood is the next most popular A.C. – 4.3% Avalon – 2.9% Brigantine – 2.9% Cape May – 4.3% Long Port – 1.4% Margate – 1.4% None – 2.9% O.C. – 37.14% Point Pleasant – 1.4% Sea Isle – 12.9% Sea Side Heights – 1.4% Stone Harbor – 1.4% Ventnor – 2.9% Wildwood – 22.9%

Which Shore Food do PA Teenagers Enjoy? ASSUMPTIONS 1.Categorical Data 2.SRS 3.All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 CHECKS 1.Shore foods are categorical 2.Stated 3.8.75 cell counts ≥ 5 Conditions met  x 2 distribution  x 2 GOF Test x 2 GOF Test

Ho: The distribution of shore foods is uniformly distributed Ha: The distribution of shore foods is not uniformly distributed P(χ 2 >45.43/df=7)= 1.128 x 10 -7 We reject Ho because the p-value of 1.128 x 10 -7 is less than α=0.05. The distribution of shore foods is not uniformly distributed Which Shore Food do PA Teenagers Enjoy?

Pizza is the most popular shore food among Pennsylvanian Teenagers Ice Cream is the next most popular Fried oreos – 7.1% Fries – 7.1% Funnel Cake – 17.1% Ice Cream – 25.7% Other – 1.4% Pizza – 30% Popcorn – 1.4% Water Ice – 10%

Which Shore Food do PA Teenagers Enjoy?

Which Activity at the Shore do PA Teenagers Enjoy? ASSUMPTIONS 1.Categorical Data 2.SRS 3.All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 CHECKS 1.Shore activities are categorical 2.Stated 3.8.75 cell counts ≥ 5 x 2 GOF Test Conditions met  x 2 distribution  x 2 GOF Test

Which Activity at the Shore do PA Teenagers Enjoy? Ho: The distribution of shore activities is uniformly distributed Ha: The distribution of shore activities is not uniformly distributed P(χ 2 >107.8/df=7)= 2.625 x 10 -20 We reject Ho because the p-value of 1.128 x 10 -7 is less than α=0.05. The distribution of shore activities is not uniformly distributed

Which Activity at the Shore do PA Teenagers Enjoy? Boardwalk is the most popular shore activity among Pennsylvanian Teenagers Boardwalk – 52.9% Bikes – 10% Boating –5.7% Fishing – 2.9% Jet Skiing – 10% Mini Golf – 10% Other – 5.7% Parasailing – 2.9%\

Which Activity at the Shore do PA Teenagers Enjoy?

What is the average amount of time a PA teenager spends per day at the beach? ASSUMPTIONS 1.SRS 2.Normal population or n ≥ 30 3.Population ≥ 10n CHECKS 1.Stated 2.n=70 3.There are more than 700 PA teenagers that vacation at the Jersey Shore Conditions met  t distribution  I sample T-Interval I Sample T-Int

What is the average amount of time a PA teenager spends per day at the beach? We are 95% confident that the interval for the population mean of hours spent on the beach per day is between 4.808 and 5.82057 hours. In recurring samples of the same size (n=70), the true average of hours spent on the beach per day will catch the interval 95% of the time.

Overall Conclusions Overall, PA teenagers favor Ocean City and Wildwood over the other Jersey Shore Points – When asking common activities, boardwalk was often chosen Pizza was the most liked “shore food” among PA teenagers The distribution of visited shore points, shore foods, and activities at the shore are not uniformly distributed among PA teenagers

Application to Population The population at large could use our information – Hot spots for vacationers – Most common things to eat on vacation – Fun activities to do when at the shore

Possible Bias & Error Response Bias – Online survey Respondents may have fabricated their answers because other people could read them Voluntary Response – Drexel Class of 2015 Facebook Group Asked for responses from Pennsylvanian Teenagers Respondents had the option whether they wanted to answer Undercoverage – We had 212 responses, but we only took every three so we had 70 subjects Decent population, but there may not be a lot of variability
