1 10/7/2008 Halcik, Nair, & Thompson--Triage Space 1 Emory Johns Creek – Triage “Triage is a process, not a place.” Mick White,RN Director of Emergency Room Currently triage in one large, rectangular room Equipment: Computer and printer chair and small stretcher Vital sign machine (portable) EKG (portable) Scale (baby and adult), height chart Cabinets with supplies Triage nurse is responsible for observing waiting room The triage space is not functionally designed to efficiently meet the needs of acuity adaptability, patient volume, clinician responsibility, and maintain regulatory requirements.

2 10/7/2008 Halcik, Nair, & Thompson--Triage Space 2 Triage Nurse cannot see the WR from Triage room Pre-registration and Triage process are not synched Stretcher in the Triage room is never used Need a second room for Triage – sometimes use the family waiting room Equipment on walls was too high Did not close the blinds during 3 triages Suggested walls as opposed to curtains During rush – use alternate triage methods Need a bathroom in the larger Triage room Sinks need to be near or in Triage area Need wheelchair access Issues and Observations
