3. Why Standards in Technology? No Child Left Behind Technology Literacy requirement Computer and Multimedia Literacy Information Literacy Technological Literacy The Ohio Standards in Technology provides teachers with a set of clear, rigorous expectations for what all students should know and be able to do.

4. How should these standards be implemented? “The Technology academic standards can be interwoven into each curricular discipline. The purpose of integrating technology is to help students make realistic connections between what they learn in each content area and the real world.”

5. Standard 1 Nature of Technology Students develop an understanding of technology, its characteristics, scope, core concepts, and relationships between technologies and other fields.

6. Standard 2 Technology and Society Interaction Students recognize interactions among society, the environment and technology, and understanding technology’s relationship with history. Consideration of these concepts forms a foundation for engaging in responsible and ethical use of technology.

7. Standard 3 Technology for Productivity Applications Students learn the operations of technology through the usage of technology and productivity tools.

8. Standard 4 Technology and Communication Applications Students use an array of technologies to communicate with multiple audiences, acquire and disseminate information and enhance learning.

9. Standard 5 Technology and Information Literacy Students engage in information literacy strategies, use the Internet, technology tools, and resources, and apply information- management skills to answer questions and expand knowledge.

10. Standard 6 Design Students apply a number of problem- solving strategies demonstrating the nature of design, the role of engineering and the role of assessment.

11. Standard 7 Designed World Students understand how the physical, informational, and bio-related technological systems of the designed world are brought about by the design process. Critical to this will be student’s understanding of their role in the designed world: its processes, products, standards, services, history, impact, issues,and career connections.

12. A Kindergarten student should be able to: Standard 1: Identify objects created (books, chairs) vs. those objects in nature (trees, rivers) Identify common systems in the school or home Recall that planning is necessary Identify technology devices in the classroom Standard 2: Describe how the use of tools & machines can be helpful or harmful. Identify materials that can be reused &/or recycled. Collect information about products & systems used at home by asking questions. 13. A Kindergarten student should be able to: Name basic parts of the computer. Use software programs with teacher assistance. Identify/recognize tech. resources (pre-selected Websites).
