2 HE in FECs Expert Programme To support transformational change in the leadership and strategic management of higher education delivered in further education colleges

3 Context 2006-07 108,000 students (headcount) funded by HEFCE c 181,000 including ‘non-prescribed’ HE most general FECs and specialist colleges (280+) wide range of volume and mix of provision

4 HEFCE ‘We recognise that further education colleges are important providers of education courses, and we support them to develop strategic HE activity. 5 HE Strategies In March 2009, all colleges in receipt of HEFCE funding (direct and indirect) were requested to submit a higher education strategy to HEFCE by 11 January 2010

6 The strategies should include: a statement about why the college offers higher education the context including local, sub-regional and regional economy and society the rationale for proposed changes the way in which the strategy meets identifiable needs and adds value management and governance relationships with HEI partners assessment and management of risk

7 Models of provision Direct HEFCE funding Indirect HEFCE funding Non-prescribed HE (LSC funding) HEI awards National awarding bodies (Edexcel/BTEC HND/C and professional)
