2 Independent Variable  A variable that you can choose to change/manipulate  What you think affects an outcome  Example: You think that the length of a ramp will affect how much force you need to push a box up a ramp. Independent Variable = length of ramp

3 Dependent Variable  Depends on Independent Variable (outcome)  You can not choose to change it directly  Example: As you increase the length of a ramp, the amount of force needed to push a box up it decreases. Independent variable = length of ramp Dependent variable = amount of force

4 Control group  These are the variables in an experiment that do not change.  Example: In the potato lab, we used the same amount of potato strips, both beakers had 250ml of tap water, and both beakers received the same amount of light.

Jill is sitting on the opposite end of the see-saw and is exerting a force of 23N. If she is sitting 1.2m above the ground, how much work is being done by Jack and Jill on the see- saw?
