1 Monarch Butterflies By Spenser Millan

2 Basic Facts Monarch butterflies are insects They live for 1-12 months
The wingspan is nearly 13 cm.

3 Habitat They live in North, South, and Central America as well as Australia, some Pacific Islands and India.

4 Diet The larvae only eat milkweed plants.
Adult butterflies eat nectar, water, and liquids from fruits.

5 Place in the food chain Butterflies sip nectar from plants and are eaten by birds and other animals as well as other insects. Not edible because of a poisonous chemical found on their wings that comes from eating milkweed, not from bottles like this

6 Why is a monarch butterfly endangered?
They are endangered because people chop down trees in all of America and Mexico and because of this they have nowhere to land.

7 Glossary larvae: a caterpillar of a moth or butterfly
Endangered Species: a species of plant or animal that is in danger of becoming extinct Wing-span: the distance between the outer tips of the wings Nectar: a sweet liquid that bees collect from flowers and turn into honey
