CMSTPFGI Beta Test March 16-April 3 Brian Williams williams.brian@hiw.com

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test Beta Test Group Selection (desired) 6 developers with varying degrees of CMSTPF, VM and PC knowledge Beta Test Group Selection (result) Controlled solely by who had Windows NT 4.0 installed 7 developers, all previously heavy users of CMSTPF Averaged 9 years in TPF Applications Only 1 had more than 5 months at Holiday Hospitality On a scale of 1 to 10 they ranked themselves: 8 for previous use of CMSTPF as a test tool 8 for expertise in the CMSTPF product 7 for knowledge of VM and VM tools (EXEC writing) 5 for knowledge of PC use - only one had previously used a PC-based development tool

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test Installation Easy installation TCP/IP was installed on VM during the week prior to the test VM tape was delivered week prior to test and installed on CMSTPFGI userid VM userids (APMSERV and X-IDs) were set up the week prior to the test PC product (TPFGI module) was delivered Monday, March 16 Original TPFGI module installed Tuesday, March 17 on developer’s PCs Two updated PC modules were installed during beta period One update to CMSTPF on VM was installed during beta period VM Changes All developers’ A-disks were changed to the Shared File System which allows users R/W access to X-IDs and eliminates the need to reaccess the prime userid’s A-disk after assemblies or compiles

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test Our Experience Each developer has used the product once or twice each day testing assembly language programs. Use Reliability/Availability There have been no problems reported. The product has been available for use 24 hours a day since it was installed. Response Time The response time has been reported to be equal to VM-based CMSTPF except for SourceView which is reported to be faster. Support Thiru has always provided excellent support for this products and has continued to do so with this product

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test The Dream Increased productivity Small learning curve Reduced training More thorough testing resulting in fewer online bugs Living off my lottery winnings Reality Slight decrease in productivity A couple of days to get familiar but still learning after two weeks Reduced training - even with no help files Easier to catch changes of data or check core and file changes Only matched two of 6 numbers

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test Best Features Fields change color when altered Easy access to core and file (double-click) Don’t have to know or remember command formats Ability to view many pieces of data at one time Trace Output file Downside For expert users of CMSTPF, the point/click environment can be cumbersome Must switch back and forth between VM development environment and PC test environment Future Provide access to VM development tools

CMSTPF/GI Beta Test Summary The latest release of CMSTPF/GI is a considerable improvement over the first version. Many improvements have been made in user interface. And based on past support from TPF Software, we’re certain it will get even better. It was felt that using TPFGI would be second nature and would be preferred over the current VM-based version. However, nothing will replace the years of experience in working with VM-based tools easily. Only time will tell. The opinion of our test group is that, when they have enough experience in the product, they will see a 40 to 50% decrease in the test phase. This is based on the features of the product which allow easy access to data. Using VM’s Shared File System is mandatory as long as the product requires an alternate userid (our X-IDs) for testing. We would do it again!
