1 + Do Now: What is the purpose of the legislative? What power is given to the legislative branch of the this nation to ensure that no one is above the law? Aim: How do we review the goals of the Legislative Branch?

2 + What principles or ideas should you keep in mind when creating your legislative branch of your Constitution? The Source of Laws: Article I of the Constitution established Congress, the collective legislative body made up of the Senate and the House. Article I of the Constitution The primary function of these two bodies is to write, debate and pass bills and to send them on to the president for his approval or veto.write, debate and pass bills

3 + Investigative Duties 1. investigate pressing national issues 2. It has the authority to declare war 3. Power to coin money 4. Regulating interstate and foreign commerce and trade. 5. Congress also is responsible for maintaining the military, though the president serves as its commander in chief

4 + Why Two Houses of Congress (Bicameral)? 1. Balance the concerns of smaller but more populated states against those of larger but more sparsely populated ones. 2. The Senate has 100 members, with each state allowed two representatives, regardless of size or population.Senate 3. The House of Representatives currently has 435 members, with each state's representation dependent upon its population.House of Representatives 4. Each member of the House represents a specific geographic district within the state, while senators represent their whole state.

5 + Keep these ideas in mind when creating your legislative branch. What type of legislature? (unicameral, bicameral) How is each boroughs represented? How are legislatures elected? What are the powers of the Congress? What powers are reserved to the States? Reminder – Why? What is the purpose of these powers? Keep in mind the goal of Legislature is to make the laws that society needs.
