3 Towards a definition of Citizenship Students will break into three groups to present different definitions of Citizenship to the class: Group: 1. Bryan S Turner. 2. David Miller. 3. Marshall’s.

4 Read the below case study and then consider the following questions … What rights should Ali have? What attitudes should people take to Ali and people like him? In what ways is Ali a non-citizen?

5 A right of residence … Should people born in the UK have a right of residence in the UK? Should EU citizens have the same right as UK citizens? Should immigrants have different rights? What about asylum seekers? What about prisoners?

6 What next? Prepare for the next lesson. Do not forget to read and précis before class. Print the intranet materials and take them to class with you. Remember, students who miss lessons - write essays!
