Overarching Thesis No work is unskilled work Pay is too low and expenses are too high Blame is place on the low class Economy declining Society’s low class, which is consumed by high expenses and scarce pay, is the scapegoat to the declining United States economy.

Purpose of “Selling in Minnesota” We asked ourselves: Why did Barbara go around to all of these cities and what did she find? To show struggles that lower class citizens face Poverty is EVERYWHERE Management problem in large businesses The purpose of the chapter was to show that poverty is too ubiquitous for people in American society to thrive.

“Selling in Minnesota” Theme Budget Constantly saving money Coping with low pay Under the conditions provided for impoverished people it is almost impossible for them to be virtuous.

“Selling in Minnesota” Thesis Savings Live from meal to meal Life is an accident waiting to happen With limited pay and constant exuberant expenses, impoverished citizen life revolves around persistent budgeting to receive only the essentials

Exploded Moment Page 151 – 153 “Room 133 contains a bed, a chair, a chest or drawers, and a TV fastened to the wall… I now breathe a mixture of fresh paint and what I eventually identify as mouse droppings the singe small window has no screen, and the room has no AC or fan …Then I decide it’s smarter to keep all senses on ready alert. I sleep and wake up, sleep and wake up again, listen to the cars coming and going, watch the silhouettes move past my window”
