Semantics Christians often use the same words with different shades of meaning. The basic meaning of “baptised in the Spirit” is “immersed in the Spirit.” Yet Paul and Luke use it with a different focus. Failure to realise this has caused much division among believers, depending on which view they emphasise.

Semantics receiving the Person Paul uses the phrase “baptised in the Spirit” to denote receiving the Person of the Spirit. releasing the power Luke uses the phrase “baptised in the Spirit” to denote releasing the power of the Spirit.
