Graphing Quadratic Inequalities Page 5 Solve the following quadratic inequalities by graphing: Steps: 1.Solve for y (get y alone) 2.Type equation on calculator under y= 3.Copy chart down onto paper 4.Plot points and parabola with a smooth curve (remember, this is an inequality, the curve may be dotted or solid depending on the inequality) 5.Test a point in the original equation. If it works, shade toward the point. If it doesn’t work, shade away from the point. #1: xy1y1 -59 -44 -31 -20 1 04 19 Now that y is alone, type it into y= and copy down chart: Notice the symmetry in the y column. Look for that when trying to write down the table! Now plot the points and ask yourself if the parabola is drawn with a solid or dotted line. Solid line! Finally, test a point to determine where to shade. Usually test (0,0). (0,0): 0 4 - TRUE Shade toward (0,0)

#3: Page 5 xy1y1 -45 -30 -2-3 -4 0-3 10 25 Dotted Line Check (0,0). Sub into original equation! (0,0): 3 < 0 - FALSE Shade away from (0,0)

#6: xy1y1 -327 -211 3 -.52 03 111 227 Solid Line Check (0,0). Sub into original equation! (0,0): 0 3 - TRUE Shade toward (0,0) Page 5
