5 How to tackle the exam… You have 1 ¾ hours for Paper 1. 1 hour should be spent on the first section. Use 10 minutes to read the texts carefully, underlining points of interest. Identify medium, purpose and audience of each. This will help inform your answers. Read questions carefully. Do not confuse presentational, structural and linguistic devices. This will seriously affect your grade.

6 Revision Exercise On your desks you have a grid, and two example texts. Firstly, you have 10 minutes to read and annotate / underline. Do this silently to replicate exam conditions. Right! Now in pairs, complete the first 4 sections of the grid. You have 10 minutes. Be ready to share answers.

7 Next task… You should complete the rest of the grid on your own. Be ready to share ideas with the rest of the class. If unsure about anything, please ask.
