MEET. ENGAGE. REFLECT.

Initial goals LALI will help librarians to: – Better understand the principles of active learning – Develop a toolkit of active learning practices – Develop confidence in working with faculty – Articulate strategies to enact the active-learning philosophy – Determine how active learning practices might be adapted to various contexts and disciplines

LALI Principles Meet students where they are Engage students in their learning Reflect on what has been learned MEET. ENGAGE. REFLECT.

LALI Learning Outcomes MEET. ENGAGE. REFLECT. 1.Experience and reflect on active learning pedagogy and practice 2.Explore methods for assessing students’ existing research competencies and habits. 3.Strategize about ways to work with faculty to craft research assignments with clear and measurable outcomes.

LALI Learning Outcomes MEET. ENGAGE. REFLECT. 4.Determine which active learning methods are most useful in a variety of library instruction scenarios. 5.Explore tools that might be used to support active learning. 6.Leave LALI with specific strategies for how they will incorporate active learning into their teaching.

LALI Day 2 MEET. ENGAGE. REFLECT. Putting it into practice Lesson design Practicum Reflection

Reflecting and Looking Forward I gained a new understanding of how people learn […which] validated some of what I've been doing, but also led me to reconsider other aspects of my teaching. It was also great to be able to work with colleagues I don't always interact with on a regular basis and share ideas about teaching. It was a good reminder that the focus shouldn't be on what I do as a teacher, but on what the learner does. I'm interested in trying to find ways to build in time for reflection. Also good to remember to spend some time developing measurable objectives. An excellent experience for all levels of teachers. Will allow you to examine your teaching and find new ways of approaching classroom interactions. The chance to practice the different strategies and techniques along with the time to reflect on how they might work in my bibliographic instruction sessions [is what I found most useful about LALI].
