Name Calling Examples: “Commies” and “Huns”
Patriotic Appeals
Demonization – portraying the enemy as purely evil. Tells the viewer exactly who to hate. Enemy may be shown as a hairy beast or the devil himself
Emotional Appeals – plays on peoples emotions, especially fear
Name Calling – labels to encourage hatred of the enemy. Examples: “Commies” and “Huns” reinforce negative stereotypes
Patriotic Appeals – using patriotic symbols or language to appeal to national pride
