2 A’s Hamilton, Alexander –author of many of the federalist papers ; First secretary of treasury leader of the federalist party Adams, Abigail-Wife of John Adams, known for her stance on women's rights in letters to her husband

3 B’s Galvez de,Bernardo – Spaniard who held of British in New Orleans, but allowed Americans use of the port. Franklin, Benjamin- Author, publisher,inventor and diplomat.

4 C’s Attucks,Crispus-American hero and martyr of the Boston Massacre Confederation- United in a league, alliance, or conspiracy.

5 D’s Declaration of Independence- Document written by Thomas Jefferson claiming Independce from Great Britain. Doroethea Dix- Reformer who fight to improve the care of the mentally ill.

6 E’s English Bill of Rights-called for frequent election; guaranteed right to bear arms,farbade cruel and unusual punishment; restated trial by jury. Whitney, Eli- Invented the cotton gin and interchangeable parts.

7 F’s Federalism-power of the government is shared between the states and national government. Federalist party- Believe in string national gov.;higher tariffs; gov support of industry

8 G’s Washington, George-Commander-in-chief of the continental army, President of the Constitutional convention, and first US president, Helped create a strong central gov. Mason, George- Writing influenced new gov. He believed in the need to restrict government power and refused to ratify the constitution till the bill of right.

9 K’s King George lll – king of England during the American Revolution Kansas Nebraska Act- All were examples of the government compromises that actually spread slavery further in the country

10 L’s Limited Government – the places strict limits on government to protect the people. Louisiana Purchase – Land bought by US in 1803 from Rocky Mt to Mississippi river.

11 M’s Minimum Government Intrusion- idea that citizens have the right to privacy and independence from government control Manifest Destiny-this was the name given to the idea that the United States was Destined to expand from the Atlantic to Pacific Ocean

12 N’s Northwest ordinance- established government for the northwest territory and described how a territory becomes a state. Nullification Compromise- Henry Clay’s compromise to end the nullification crisis when the tariff would be lowered over 10-year period.

14 P’s Patrick Henry- patriot from Virginia, opposed ratification or Constitution because of potential limitations on states rights “Give me liberty or give me death” Property Rights- the right to own property

15 Q’s Quakers- Believed that every individual an “innerlight” that could lead him or her to salvation. John Quincy Adams- 6 th president, Member of the congress and favored strong nationalism government against states rights and opposed the pro-slavery message of john C. Calhoun

16 R’s Republican Party- modern republican party Formed before the civil war as an anti –slavery party Abraham Lincoln was the first republican president. Ralph Waldo Emerson- writer and poet. Popularized the idea of transcendentalism

17 S’s Samuel Morse- Inventor of the Telegraph Samuel Adams- Boston patriot who oppose British taxation. He established the committee of correspondence. Leader of the sons of Liberty and insisted a Bill of Rights be assed to the Constitution before ratification

18 T’s Thomas Paine- wrote common sense and He urged Americans to support the Patriot Crisis, during the American revolution Temperance Movement-social movement to stop drinking alcohol
